One of the great times at any BBQ contest can be around 5:00 AM when the early shift is up and about tending to their smokers and meat. It seemed like you could always find a hot cup of coffee at one of your neighbor’s sites or maybe a couple slices of fresh bacon. But, you knew if you were really lucky someone would be serving up some of the most delicious homemade Bloody Mary’s you’ve ever put your lips to. It’s amazing how creative a competition BBQ Chef can get with a basic Bloody Mary recipe and all of the spices, sauces and meat at hand.
Here is one recipe that I really enjoy. Of course, it’s a Bloody Mary, so jazz it up any which way you want.
6 ounces vodka
12 ounces vegetable or tomato juice
3 tablespoons Firebug HOT Grillin’ Sauce
3 teaspoons prepared horseradish
Dash Worcestershire sauce
Dash hot sauce
1/2 lemon, juiced
Oakridge Santa Maria Rub
Jalapeno, for garnish
Mix all the ingredients except for the lemon and garnishes into a cocktail shaker with ice. Combine well.
Rim the edge of the glasses with a lemon. Dip into dry rub. Pour the Bloody Mary into the glasses filled with ice. Garnish each with a jalapeno.
